Board is a one-button springboard diving game. Your diver walks out and hurdles onto the end of the board on their own. Hold to ride the board down, and let go right at the bottom: the better your timing, the higher you bounce and the more time you have in the air. Then hold to tuck and somersault, and let go to open out. Each dive calls a number of turns, like ½ or 1½. Do at least that many and enter the water head-first and straight, and three judges hold up their marks out of 10. Start on the 1 m board and move up to the 3 m board, where the calls get bigger. A flop, a short dive or a cannonball costs one of three lives. Your score is the judges' points.

How to play Board

  1. Hold as your diver lands on the end of the board to ride it down.
  2. Let go when the marker by the board hits the gold line at the bottom, for a big bounce.
  3. In the air, hold to tuck and spin. Let go to open out.
  4. Enter the water head-first and straight, with at least the called turns.

Tips to get a high score

From the 1 m to the 3 m board

Your first five dives are from the 1 m board. The first two always call ½, a plain head-first dive, and from the third the call can be 1½. From the sixth dive you're on the 3 m board, with more time in the air and calls that climb to 2½ and 3½.

Each call is the most half-turns that fit after a good bounce, with a three-in-ten chance of one fewer. The allowed entry angle tightens from about 35° off vertical to about 17° by the tenth dive. After that the spin keeps speeding up with every dive.

The bounce

The board takes about half a second to bend down and spring back up, and the bottom comes a quarter of a second after you land. Let go right there for full height. Let go halfway down or halfway back up and you lose about a quarter of your height.

Never pressing at all, or holding right through, gives the smallest bounce. That's often too little air for the call, and the dive ends up SHORT.

Scoring

A clean dive scores the judges' mark, from 3 to 10. Each marks it down for how far off vertical you entered and for a low bounce, and gives a little extra for bigger calls.

A RIP ENTRY (within about 11°, tightening to 7°) from a bounce near the top of the board's range is always a 10. Spinning past the call is fine if you still enter straight.

FAQ

How is a springboard different from cliff diving?

The board bends and throws you up. In Board you control that bounce, so a good takeoff gives you more height and more time for turns. Cliff diving in Tapamine is the game Dive.

How do the judges score?

Three judges mark each clean dive out of 10, mostly on how straight you enter and partly on how high you bounced. Flops, short dives and cannonballs score nothing and cost a life.

Is it free?

Yes. Every Tapamine game is free to play in your browser with no download and no account.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Tapamine is built for phones first: portrait, one thumb, and it works offline after your first visit. It also works with a mouse or the spacebar on a computer.

How do challenges work?

After a run, tap “Challenge a friend” to send a link. Your friend plays the exact same level and races your ghost — a replay of your run — to see who wins.
