Skip is a one-tap jump rope game in the school playground. Two friends turn a long rope, and you hop over it every time it sweeps under your feet. A quick tap is a small hop. Hold and you jump higher and stay up longer. The tempo keeps changing, and when the rope turns gold it's a DOUBLE: it whips round twice per jump, so you need held high jumps to clear both passes. Trip three times and the run is over. Your score is how many jumps you clear.
How to play Skip
- Tap anywhere to hop. Time it so the rope passes under you at the top of your hop.
- Hold for a higher, longer jump.
- When the rope glows gold and the screen says DOUBLE, hold to clear two passes in one jump.
- Three trips and you're out. Clear the rope as many times as you can.
Tips to get a high score
- Hop when the rope is coming down in front of you, not when it's already at your feet.
- On fast normal tempos, keep the hops short. A held jump lasts too long and the rope catches you.
- A light-gold rope means a DOUBLE is coming next. Get ready to hold.
- Coins for hats sometimes float over a slow pass. Hold for a high jump to grab them.
- Let the rope pass right under the top of your hop to build a PERFECT streak.
How the tempo builds
The rope starts slow, close to a second per turn, and the tempo changes every 5 to 10 passes. Over roughly the first minute the average turn speeds up to about half a second. Each new tempo has a little randomness, so the rope can ease off for a stretch before speeding up again.
After that minute the rope keeps creeping faster until a turn takes under 0.4 seconds. At that pace even quick hops can't keep up, so every run ends sooner or later.
DOUBLE stretches only start after your first 14 passes. Each one lasts 2 to 4 jumps, two never come back to back, and they turn up more often the longer you last.
Tap hops versus held jumps
A tap hop keeps you in the air for about 0.37 seconds. Holding makes you rise more slowly and higher, for a jump of nearly 0.6 seconds that goes almost twice as high. Let go during the rise and the jump turns normal from that point, so you can pick any height in between.
After landing you need a split second before you can jump again. A press made just before you touch down is remembered, so in a fast rhythm you can tap slightly early and still get the next hop.
Save held jumps for doubles and coins. On a fast normal tempo a held jump takes longer than one turn of the rope, so you're still coming down when the next pass arrives. Coins float over some slow passes and need a held jump to reach, but they're for hats and don't add to your score.
Clearing doubles and recovering from trips
Every pass you clear is a point, so each DOUBLE jump scores two. In a DOUBLE the rope passes under you twice, about a third of a second apart, and your feet have to be off the ground both times. Hold from the start of the jump and keep holding until you reach the top.
Time a double later than a normal hop. Jump just as the rope is about to reach your feet, so the first pass goes under you early in the jump and the second just after the top.
A trip costs one of your three hearts and stops the rope. About a second later it restarts from overhead at a slower tempo for a few passes, which gives you time to find the rhythm again. The PERFECT streak counts passes that go under you right at the top of a jump; it's for show and doesn't change your score.

FAQ
What's a double-under?
In a DOUBLE stretch the rope turns twice for every jump. A quick tap hop can't keep up, so hold for a high jump that stays in the air long enough for the rope to pass under twice.
Why do I keep tripping?
You're usually jumping too late. The rope has to pass while your feet are off the ground, so start the hop as the rope swings down in front of you.
Is it free?
Yes. Every Tapamine game is free to play in your browser with no download and no account.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Tapamine is built for phones first: portrait, one thumb, and it works offline after your first visit. It also works with a mouse or the spacebar on a computer.
How do challenges work?
After a run, tap “Challenge a friend” to send a link. Your friend plays the exact same level and races your ghost — a replay of your run — to see who wins.
