Gulp

Eat small. Dodge big. Grow. A free one-tap game.

Play nowHold to swim up · Let go to sink

Gulp is a one-button fish eating game. Your little blob fish swims forward through the sea on its own, and the only thing you control is depth: hold to swim up, let go to sink. Bright little fish are dinner, so line up with them and gulp them down to grow. Anything bigger than you, with red fins and teeth, is the one doing the eating. Puffers look like a snack until you get close, then balloon into a spiky ball. Sharks drift toward your depth, and the sea floor is lined with urchins. There's a new sea every day, with friends' ghost fish swimming beside you.

How to play Gulp

  1. Hold anywhere to swim up. Let go and your fish sinks.
  2. Swim into smaller, brightly coloured fish to eat them. Every fish you eat makes you a little bigger.
  3. Avoid fish with red fins and teeth: touching one ends the run.
  4. Keep off the sea floor too: the red urchins sting.

Tips to get a high score

How the sea gets busier

Gulp ramps up over about the first 70 seconds. By then the sea scrolls past about 60 percent faster, and predators turn up about two and a half times as often. Snacks come a little more often too, and more of them arrive in schools of two or three.

New predators join in stages. At first there are only big, slow groupers. Barracudas, long and fast, appear after about 16 seconds. Puffers join at around 23 seconds and sharks at around 30.

Every fish is sized against you as it arrives. Predators are always spawned bigger than you are at that moment, so growing never lets you eat them. Snacks are always spawned smaller, so the green, orange, blue and pink fish are always safe.

Scoring, combos and coins

Every fish you eat is one point, and that's the whole score. Your size, combos and close calls don't add to it.

Combos are where most coins come from. Eat again within about 1.7 seconds to keep a GULP combo going, and every fifth fish in a combo drops a coin. A loose coin also drifts by every six to ten seconds.

You grow fast at first and less with each fish, up to a bit over twice your starting size. A bigger fish catches snacks more easily, but it's also a bigger target, so leave more room around predators late in a run.

For a long run, stay in the middle depths and let food come to you. Chasing a snack near the floor or the surface leaves you no room to dodge whatever comes next.

Swimming with weight

Holding pushes you up a little harder than gravity pulls you down, so you rise faster than you sink. Both build up speed, so start your climbs a moment early and your dives even earlier.

The surface is safe: you just bump off it. The sea floor is not, and touching the urchins ends the run. When in doubt, stay high.

Sharks steer toward your depth only while they're still ahead of you, and they turn faster later in a run. Once a shark draws level, it stops chasing. Barracudas are long, so don't cut back across their depth until the tail has gone by.

Puffers start to swell when you get close in front of them and grow to nearly twice their size. Treat any yellow fish as a wall at its depth and change lanes early.

FAQ

Which fish can I eat?

The small, brightly coloured ones: green, orange, blue and pink. Grey fish with red fins and teeth are predators, and yellow puffers turn spiky when you get near.

Do I keep growing forever?

No. Your fish grows quickly at first and then levels off, while the sea fills with more and faster predators the longer you survive.

Is it free?

Yes. Every Tapamine game is free to play in your browser with no download and no account.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. Tapamine is built for phones first: portrait, one thumb, and it works offline after your first visit. It also works with a mouse or the spacebar on a computer.

How do challenges work?

After a run, tap “Challenge a friend” to send a link. Your friend plays the exact same level and races your ghost — a replay of your run — to see who wins.
